Arms Library Board of Trustees

March 2017

Kate Downes has wonderful memories of running to the Arms library one snowy evening with her small children, in their pajamas and boots, giggling and breathless, to grab some bedtime books before the library closed for the day. Those children are now in college, but having such a cozy and welcoming library so close by made it easy to fulfill their love of reading. Kate lives in Shelburne Falls and is an elder law and estate planning attorney.

Sheryl Gilmore was born and raised in Shelburne Falls and has been a patron of the Arms Library since childhood. She is currently working as a customer service representative and has been a trustee of the library since 2003.

Karen Sheaffer is currently Chair of the Arms Library Board of Trustees and a member of the Pratt Memorial Library Committee, having served on the Board of Trustees since 2014. She is a retired early childhood educator and a resident of Buckland. Karen also travels widely.

Peter Stevens, a Shelburne resident since 2001, has enjoyed a long career as a teacher and independent school headmaster in both American and International schools. More recently, he has worked as an independent educational consultant, helping students and families identify and apply to appropriate schools, special programs, and colleges, while also offering consulting services to schools and other educational enterprises. A former Peace Corps volunteer, Peter is currently the Chair of the Arms Library Phase 2 Capital Campaign, “Arms Around Us.” Peter lives in Shelburne with his wife Linn Bower, a well-known local artist.

Priscilla White-Tocker moved to Shelburne Falls from Boston with her husband in June of 2016. Priscilla is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who works as a Behavioral Health Care Manager for Tufts Health Plan. She also spent over 20 years working as a Technical Services Librarian at the Boston Public Library and has an MLS from Simmons College. She is happy to be joining the board and reconnecting with her library roots.

Manat Wooten joins the board as part of her continued embrace of Shelburne Falls as a new community member. As a lifelong learner and devotee of local libraries, she is excited to usher in a new chapter of the Arms with her fellow board members. When not at work advising students at Bard College at Simon's Rock, she and her partner William take in the local cultural attractions and look for new restaurants to try.
