Solar Eclipse Viewing Party ~ April 8, 2024

Date
Monday, April 8, 2024 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Description

Dust off your lawn chairs, bring some water and snacks, and come to the Arms Library Solar Eclipse Viewing Party. It's okay too, to just stop by briefly and join your neighbors in this awesome event.

We're looking at around 95.3% totality.

On the day of the eclipse we will gather at the Arms Library south facing sidewalk, and in the grassy area in back of the library, beginning at about 1:45 p.m. The eclipse begins at approximately 2 p.m. EST, making its way across the sun until about 4:30 p.m. EST. The moon's maximum coverage of the sun will be around 3:15 - 3:30 EST.

During the afternoon there will be several solar eclipse-themed art projects, as well as an informational display. Oh, and delicious special treats.

We will have solar eclipse glasses available during the day until we run out.

You must wear protective eclipse glasses, if watching the eclipse. Looking at the eclipse directly can harm your eyes. If you haven't already gotten a pair of solar eclipse glasses, we have solar eclipse glasses, until the supply runs out. (We have already given out several hundred of them.) Betsy at Shelburne Free Public Library sent 200 glasses over to help the Arms distribute them. But, she still has plenty left, if you frequent SFPL more often than Arms.
